Metal Guide
The metal frames your diamond and determines how a piece wears over a lifetime. Here is how our metals compare.
18k gold
18 karat gold is 75% pure gold alloyed with other metals for strength. It has a rich color and a substantial feel, and is our standard for fine jewelry.
- Yellow gold: classic and warm.
- White gold: alloyed with white metals and plated with rhodium for a bright finish; re-plating every few years keeps it white.
- Rose gold: alloyed with copper for a soft pink tone.
14k gold
14 karat gold is 58.3% pure gold. The higher alloy content makes it harder and more resistant to scratches, and it costs less than 18k with a slightly lighter color.
Platinum
Platinum is naturally white, dense and hypoallergenic. It does not fade or need plating, and when scratched the metal is displaced rather than lost, developing a soft patina that can be polished away.
Which should I choose?
- For sensitive skin, choose platinum.
- For an active lifestyle, 14k gold or platinum is most durable.
- For the richest color, choose 18k gold.
- To wear alongside existing jewelry, match the metals you already wear.
