Engagement Ring Guide
An engagement ring is a diamond and a setting chosen together. Start with the style that feels right, then choose a stone to suit it.
Setting styles
- Solitaire: a single diamond on a plain band. Timeless, and it puts every eye on the stone.
- Halo: a frame of small diamonds that adds sparkle and makes the centre look larger.
- Pavé: a band set with small diamonds for continuous brilliance.
- Three-stone: a centre diamond between two side stones, often read as past, present and future.
- Hidden halo: a ring of diamonds beneath the centre stone, visible from the side.
Prongs and profiles
Four prongs show more of the diamond; six hold it more securely and soften the outline. A low-profile setting is practical for everyday wear, while a higher cathedral setting lifts the stone and lets in more light.
Choosing the metal
